New FreeFrom Personal and Skincare Products

New Skincare at the Natural and Organic Products Europe Show 2014

NOPE

The Natural & Organic Products Europe Show is the UK’s premier natural and organic trade event, and a terrific forum for new and emerging ‘free from’ products – both in food (which we’ve rounded-up on our FreeFrom Foods Matter site), home and household, supplements – and, of course, skincare.

We’ve been attending for several years (click here for a round up of our 2012 finds, and click here for our collected 2013 finds). This year, we were disappointed to come across quite a few promising looking brands which turned out to contain ingredients such as silicones and the preservative MI in their products, as well as significant quantities of petrochemically derived ingredients.

That said, we remained impressed with the diversity of brands both launching and expanding their ranges. Here is a modest selection from the many which caught our eye…

Launching at the Show, Yours Truly Organics is a four-strong range of face care products specifically designed for oily and spot-prone skin. They are Gel Cleanser, Balancing Toner, Repairing Serum and Face Balm. Prices mostly in the £20-30 range. Key ingredients include orange oil, sandalwood oil, and soothing oat extracts.

The range is free from SLS, formaldehyde, parabens, lanolin, mineral oil, silicones, tricolsan and artifical fragrance.

Also launching was a wide range of skincare products from Wood-Knit-Bee. Already established as producers of pure beeswax candles, they have now launched a huge selection of Cool Soaps natural soaps in twelve numbered varieties, made with extra virgin olive oil and plant oils, as well as Victory Soaps, which are handcrafted and scented with aromatherapeutic oils.

Further, their ‘Fabulous Organic’ body lotions promise to add a touch of luxury to the bathroom, with aromatic blends such as rosemary and cedarwood, and lavender and frankincense, enriched with aloe vera and shea butter. They also have a very simple Tilia Beeswax Ointment, with only olive oil and beeswax.

Products are free from palm oil, parabens, petrochemicals and artificial perfumes.

We noticed a huge honey trend this year in the FreeFrom Skincare Awards, so weren’t surprised to see it repeated at the NOPE show. Queen of the Hive by Wedderspoon is a new small collection of products consisting of Face Contour Cream, Organic Lipcare and various organic artisanal soaps, which are free from SLS, petroleum / mineral oil, parabens and artificial fragrances and colours.

Human + Kind, distributed by Dee & Co, is a colourfully packaged range of natural skincare, including a skin lightening range and a haircare range.

Products are free from parabens, SLS, mineral oils, phthalates, urea, BHA/ BHT/ BPA, toluene, camphor, contaminated talc/ lanolin, carbomer, zirconium, ethanolamine, hydroquinone, or animal tested ingredients or products.

More honey! Ultra Bee Health is a South African brand, just about to launch in the UK, based on honey and propolis, as well as avocado oil. It claims to be 100% natural, avoiding colourings and preservatives, and is targeted at those with eczema, sores, psoriasis, problem or hyper-sensitive skins, as well as against skin infections and to offer some sun protection. There is even a Tattoo Balm to help healing and ‘enhance the depth of colour’ and a ‘dry skin and mange’ balm for pets and animals!

We really liked the look of these very natural deodorants by pHresh, and which are free from aluminium, glycol, petroleum, artificial colours, parabens, beeswax, dairy and gluten.

Women’s and girls varieties come in Barely Sweet, Sugar Mint, Tropical Blossom, Crème Brulée and Unscented; men’s varieties come in Active Sea Mineral, Bold Wild Oak and Hero Herbal Spice. They contain ingredients such as aloe, corn starch, and carrageenan, are preserved with radish root extract, and are the first deodorants to use saccromyces ferment, which is an active enzyme that attacks odour-causing bacteria.

Antipodean ranges often do well in our Awards and amongst our testers, so we were excited to come across Zk’in – an Aussie brand which is set to launch in the UK in June (perhaps July), and which boasts strong natural credentials. We don’t have many details yet, but the Australian site should give you a taste of what’s to come in summer …

And finally, we discovered that JASON are launching a new range of certified gluten-free skincare products. Find out more – and enter our competition to win a set of the products, right here.
